Talon Marks Committee

The ASCC has established a Talon Marks committee because it is not happy with what goes on in the newspaper.

I have been hearing things that are shocking to me because none of it has been said directly to me.

What upsets me most about this is that no one has talked to me about anyone having a problem with the paper.

The purpose of the committee would be if someone had come to me with problems he or she says and I don't listen.

However, that hasn't happened. I have only directly heard positive comments about the paper.

I have heard that lies are being spread about me even.

And I am put into a position that I cannot defend myself or my paper because no one is saying it to me.

Communication goes both ways. I have no problem with the ASCC and I would say something if I did. I hoped for the same courtesy from the ASCC had a problem with the Talon Marks.

Congratulations on your contributions to iFALCON and working toward making the Student Center look nicer.

The purpose of the committee is more research than anything else, it to review standards and comparison to other CC newspapers. I am sitting committee member, and thus far have found nothing wrong with Talon marks. I see the news paper to be in good standing to others schools. I believe that if there is any bickering between ASCC government and Talon Marks in the future it should put down, just to ensure that future only hold peaceful cooperation between these to entities.

Believe me, this type of behavior is nothing new. I am a former editor of the TM, and I remember our staff being called on the carpet for all sorts of reasons. Small college, big politics.

My favorite event of the semester I led at TM was having a meeting with a high-up dean to determine whether I was racist because most of the staff members who enrolled in the production class were Caucasian. Hmmm, if they were another ethnicity, would I have been commended as a pluralist?

Good luck with what you do. It's a thankless job, but it needs people like yourself who see through that and try to report events as they really are.

I agree with you completly, at the current moment im planning to promote people to sign up for TM, and i believe the newspaper covers what they can within their limitations. That is why i called for temp. Suspension of this committee and it is suspend. I am proponent for the right to a free press, regardless of what is publish comes out negative or positive.

This why the JACC exists. From what I've seen TM is a good standing member, and has received several awards of excellence. There really isn't a need for the ASCC to have a TM committee, what is published, how it's published should be at the discretion of the editors, and staff and advisors.
