Dr. Bryan Reece gave a presentation to the ASCC Senate yesterday about what he calls the Habits of Mind campaign, or iFALCON.
It sounds like a great idea. FALCON is a nice acronym for:
Focus
Advance
Link up
Comprehend
Organize and embrace
New ideas
"Falcon" is being used as an adjective here. Do you falcon? I falcon. It also pays homage to all the Apple products (i.e. iPod, iPhone).
So what's making it fun for students is the advertising that looks like the silhouette you see in the iPod advertisements.
Putting up banners and posters is a good idea. But the Faculty Senate wants to hand out cards too. Like when Taco Bell gives you your receipt, it hands you a card with the iFalcon stuff on it.
The main dilemma here is what do we do about students that will just throw them away?
I throw away all advertisements I may get with my receipts. I'm sure many people do.
How do we tell students that these are not just ads?
Instead of just handing the cards out to students, set them down around campus (like the Talon Marks) and let students pick them up willingly.
This way, fewer students will be throwing them away and they wouldn't be wasted.

You didn't mention what the Habit's of Mind Campaign really is.
Student Body President Michael Barrita wants the students of Cerritos College to take an active role here on campus. One way to do that, is by getting involved with the new Habits of Mind Campaign, which was presented by Dr. Reece. Dr. Reece, Faculty Senate President, states that many student's struggle academically because they can't apply themselves in the way that is successful. They often do not have the right resources, attitude, or guide to help them prosper like a successful student would. Habits of Mind Campaign is designed to figure out what practices are of the successful students and provide every student with those guidelines.
This campaign will especially help the first generation college students here at Cerritos College. The Campaign is divided into two parts: one is in-class faculty driven, the other is a General Campus Campaign, which is student driven. To promote this campaign posters with student as silhouettes will be used. Campaign cards, about 50,000 and plus, will also be circulated throughout the campus.
For the posters, Dr. Reece is in need of successful students that are interested in show casing themselves in the campaign. If anyone is interested please contact Student Body President Michael Barrita.
Dr. Reece also invites the Senators to the Habits of Mind Faculty Meeting on October 30th, 2008 from 11am - 12:30pm in the Teleconference Center.
